The feedbacks that I’ve received from my peers are mostly about me being quiet in class. I am a shy person. Most of my classmates should have realized that. So, I agree on the feedbacks from the peers that I am quiet. I tend to observe than to speak up. I only speak up when I have to. It is hard for me to talk infront of the class. That’s why I never took public speaking class. I also don’t see the point to re-state the same opinion when I agree/share the same opinion with others. I seldom talk in class but that doesn’t mean I don’t contribute to the class. I often put my opinions on the comments of the posts. I admit that I just wanted to learn and understand leadership at the beginning. I was not interested in letting others to understand me. I have always been the one to observe and understand others but not the other way around. I am surprised to see a feedback from a classmate saying that I don’t say a word in class and lack of contribution to the class on a serious level. I believe most of my classmates are active and aggressive since most of them chose the leader group at the beginning of class. I am a passive follower but I do what I have to do. This feedback probably was given at an earlier stage of class. At least I did my job and I tried.

I have learned that I might be quiet but I do give some good ideas and my contribution to the class is acknowledged by my groupmates.

I am a member of the group.

The quality and amount of group production is my responsibility.

Goal-setting is a responsibility that I share. If true, explain how.
- it’s a responsibility that I share because we set the goal as a group and I’m a member of the group. Therefore, it’s also my responsibility.

I have been instrumental in marshalling resources for the group. If true, explain how.
-False

Members are more important to groups than leaders.

I am using this class to satisfy my individual and group-irrelevant needs. If true, on what basis can you earn a passing grade?
- I’m using this class to satisfy my individual and group-irrelevant needs as in getting credits to graduate and to learn about leadership which is irrelevant to other students in the class. I earn a passing grade on fulfilling the requirements and work with my group. I do what I’m supposed to do.

To be a member in a group means I have to take on one or more roles.

If I am in a group, I am either a functional member or an un- or dys-functional member.

Our class/group has all the roles necessary to achieve optimum group growth and productivity. If true, explain. If false, which role(s) are we missing?
-False. There is no indication on which roles are necessary to achieve optimum group growth and productivity, so I can’t answer true to this statement.

Our class/group has not yet generated effective work on the problem of role-requiredness. If true, what role have you been playing? If false, what evidence – on the group level – supports your claim?
-False. Each of us has a role in the class. Our roles change constantly in different settings. Based on the roles that each of us has, we have progress on our group project. We have generated effective work, isn’t it?

My role(s) in the class/group and different sub-group teams has changed depending on the stage of development. If false, why not, and what does having a static, unchanging role “do” to or for the group? If true, fill out the chart below.
- what chart?

Improving the group’s quality of functioning requires diagnosing role requirements needed at the current stage of development.

I am unsure how to diagnose role requirements needed by my sub-group team. If true, what is your strategy for learning?
-False.

I have role flexibility. If true, explain with three or more specific examples from class. If false, what are the adverse consequences to your teams and the class/group-as-a-whole?
- I am a follower, procedural technician and group- observer and commentator. I am always the observer and follower. I chose to be a follower on the first day of class. I accept the ideas of others and observe the process since the first day of class. I helped out with the postings on the wikipage for my group. I also gave and comment the ideas that we had for our group project.

Developing role flexibility is an important objective of group member training. The three roles I flex among the most are: a)_procedural technician___, b)___follower_____, and c)___opinion giver___. My decision to flex is based upon: ____Based on which group I am in and people who I am working with__ (name at least two factors and give an actual example). when the class as a group to make decision I’m the follower and the observer because people’s ideas are similar. Therefore, I am usually agreeing. As to smaller group, I have a chance to express my opinions because group members may hold different values.

My personality and the role(s) I play in groups are the same thing.

I never find myself resisting the retraining required to be a functional group member. If true, are you saying you never experience tension or anxiety in the class/group? Explain. If false, how does your resistance tend to show itself in role behavior?
- I experienced tension in the class/ group. I thought retraining to be a functional group member often exists naturally .

I am highly sensitive to criticism about my functional role in a group.

I will do anything possible to make sure everyone feels good, even if it means producing an inferior product.

I am sensitive to the operation of member roles in our class/group and in my sub-group teams.

I am aware of and conscious about my own proficiency in different functional roles.

I can identify several functional roles in any group.

I can match the roles required to the stage of development a group is in.

I can assess what role I can play best based on changing requirements for the group.

The trip to Papercity Brewery was a memorable one. It was exciting to visit a brewery because I’d never been to a brewery before. I thought it would be a fun trip. I thought all I had to do was beer bottling and taste different kind of beers but it was not the case.

We had a little trouble on finding the place. There is just a little sign indicating where the brewery is and there are only a few parking spots. The road to the parking lot is VERY bumpy too. I am glad that I did not have to drive.

The volunteer night at the brewery was not just bottling beer. It was like cheap labor even though we got a box of beers for free after five hours of hard work. 12 cans of beers in a box cost around 10 dollars. Assuming a dollar per can in retail price, we get 24 bottles for 24 dollars. If we pay a little extra, for instance, 30 dollars for 24 bottles and we divide 30 dollars by 5 hours of work. We were paid 6 dollars per hour of work. It’s like minimum wage.

Justin was picked to work at the front of the brewery near the entrance once we got in. Brian then helped out in that section later. I only saw Justin once at the back when he came to grab a beer throughout the 5 hours volunteer work. Francisco and I were working at the back of the brewery. We put the stickers on stacks of empty beer bottle. It was actually pretty tiring. We didn’t actually fool around getting drunk at the brewery. We were all doing hard work. We could drink beers when we work but we did not actually drink much because we had to work. I had the chance to taste few different local beers. The beers taste different than the international brands. The tastes are different. One of them tastes like Chinese herbal medicine. So, I didn’t really like it. One of them tastes like coffee and I don’t like coffee, so I didn’t like that either. The lights were dim at the brewery. This is really bad for our eyes. We did not have break within the five hours. I sneaked to the other side of the brewery which was a bar area to have a smoke. There were ashtrays on the table, so I assumed we could smoke in there. However, a guy with a volunteer shirt came up to me and told me that we couldn’t smoke in the brewery. I was surprised because I saw many cigarette butts on the ashtrays and what’s the point of having ashtrays on the tables if we couldn’t smoke in there. Moreover, a cigarette break wouldn’t take more than five minutes anyway. This was one thing that got on my nerves. Other than this, it was a great experience.

Queer is a term with ever-changing meaning. In most cases, the word has a derogatory meaning. There are meanings of the word that the author did not mention in the paper: to spoil; ruin; to put (a person) in a hopeless or disadvantageous situation as to success, favor; to jeopardize, according to Dictionary.com. Queer is commonly known to describe something odd or to describe people who engage in homosexual behaviors. I agree with the author that some people may be offended by this word, some may not. This depends on how people perceive the meaning of the word. Personal and cultural experience can affect the use of this word, for instance, I first understood the meaning of queer is equivalent to strange. I would not be offended if others called me queer in this case. However, I disagree with the author’s teacher which he/she chastised the student because the student used the word ‘queer’. The word (queer) can mean anything. In terms of homosexuality, I believe society has generally accepted the term ‘queer’ as a form identity. Would it be more degrading to call someone a ‘faggot’ than to call someone a ‘queer’?

To use ‘queer’ in terms of homosexuality, I don’t see any person show his/her sexual orientation to one another since we are not that close. On the other hand, I can recognize other behaviors as queer in class in terms of other meanings, such as odd situations at the beginning of class where people were confused to what was going on in class. Another example would be the in-class discussions of the wiki page in last few classes put our classmates in hopeless or disadvantageous situations as to success.

It is my first time hearing about this People’s Army in Columbia. The killing and kidnapping of innocent civilians by the army have threatened the lives of the Columbians. Many people are aware of this situation because of the fact that this people’s army is causing a lot of troubles which leads to poverty in that nation. I would like to attend the protest tomorrow, however, I have two other classes which I have to attend during the time of the protest. It is only the second week of classes and I want to decide if i wanted to stay in those classes. Moreover, professors from both of the classes take attendance during class time. I do not want to leave a bad impression to them by not going to class on the second week of school. It is also very tiring to drive from Amherst to Boston then come back on the same day. It will probably take four hours to drive back and forth. So, I decide not to attend the protest even though it is a meaningful event.
